Who we are
Adult Children of Alcoholics & Dysfunctional Families (ACA) UK is a 12-Step, 12-Tradition recovery fellowship of men and women who grew up in alcoholic or otherwise dysfunctional homes. We offer a safe, non-judgmental, and anonymous space for individuals seeking to recover from the lasting emotional and behavioural effects of childhood trauma.
Our purpose
Our primary purpose is to carry the message of recovery to adult children who suffer from the impacts of family dysfunction. Through regular peer-led support meetings, working the 12 Steps, and studying ACA WSO-approved literature, members learn to break unhealthy coping patterns, practice self-compassion, and build healthy adult relationships.
How we operate
Self-Supporting & Independent: ACA has no financial or organizational affiliation with any religious denomination, political group, or outside institution. We are fully self-supporting through voluntary donations from our members.
Anonymity & Safety: Confidentiality is the foundation of our fellowship. Who you see here, what you hear here, when you leave here, let it stay here. We also have full details on our approach to safeguarding.
UK-Wide Support: We connect individuals across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland with local in-person and online recovery meetings.

This website is maintained by the ACA UK Intergroup, supporting local groups and members across the United Kingdom. We operate under the guidance of the ACA World Service Organisation (WSO).
