Can you support your fellowship?

ACA UK Intergroup’s serving officers give service at a national level to support the fellowship and reach the adult child who still suffers. We are a supportive and friendly community, currently seeking ACAs to fill the following roles:

The Chair of ACA UK holds a key leadership position, ensuring that the group adheres to its mission whilst guided by the 12 Traditions.

The Chair fosters unity within the fellowship, as outlined in Tradition 1, by facilitating meetings, setting agendas, and ensuring that decisions reflect the collective will of the group (Tradition 2).

As the organization’s spokesperson, the Chair embodies the spirit of service, following Tradition 8, which encourages non-professional leadership while maintaining accountability.

The Chair also promotes Tradition 5 by focusing the group on its primary purpose: to carry ACA’s message to those who still suffer.

Above all, the Chair is responsible for ensuring that decisions are made with respect for the whole fellowship’s conscience (Tradition 2), allowing the collective voice of ACA UK to guide its direction.

  • The Chair will need to update the WSO website with contact details
  • Opens facilitates and closes the monthly meeting
  • Schedules support for those in service at Intergroup with a monthly Serving Officers meeting
  • Supports the incoming new Chair on rotation

Intergroup Service Officer roles are usually two years in duration.  However, depending on the role, a commitment of one year may be sufficient.  If you are interested in this role please email us to arrange an informal discussion.

The Vice-Chair supports the Chair in maintaining the integrity of ACA UK, particularly ensuring that decisions and actions remain aligned with the 12 Traditions.

In the Chair’s absence, the Vice Chair upholds Tradition 2 by facilitating meetings and ensuring decisions are made through group conscience. The Vice-Chair also helps maintain the fellowship’s autonomy (Tradition 4), while balancing this with cooperation and mutual respect for other ACA groups (Tradition 6).

The role also includes helping to ensure that ACA UK remains financially responsible (Tradition 7) and focused on service (Tradition 12), always upholding the spirit of anonymity and unity. In the absence of the Chair the Vice-Chair opens, facilities and closes the Intergroup meeting.

Recovery Requirements for Intergroup Serving Officer Roles:

In the spirit of our Twelve Traditions and the principles of service, we invite trusted servants who are grounded in their recovery and willing to support our fellowship at a national level. The following guidelines aim to maintain unity, uphold accountability, and ensure a healthy structure that honours the group conscience.

Recovery Guidelines

To help ensure our national service remains grounded, consistent, and led with care, we ask that potential volunteers have 2 or 3 of the below gently suggested elements.

  1. Have held a service position at meeting level for at least 6 months and actively engaged in Group Business / Conscious meetings.
  2. Be actively cultivating emotional sobriety and grounded in an emotionally balanced recovery.
  3. (Optional, not essential) Have completed the Twelve Steps of ACA, ideally with a sponsor or fellow traveler. Whilst this ideally will have been within ACA, we will consider all recovery from other fellowships as ACA cooperates with all other 12 Step Fellowships.

For reference, ACA defines emotional sobriety as: “Developing self-awareness and learning to recognise, understand, and accept one’s feelings without reverting to childhood survival mechanisms. Emotional sobriety is about progress, not perfection, and involves healthier ways to regulate and express emotions as part of a balanced and fulfilling life.”

All experience will be considered. If you would like to have an informal conversation please reach out to: intergroup@adultchildrenofalcoholics.co.uk
